At present, even having a uniform standard, two main types of Maine Coons are notable: American and European. Certainly, the origin of all Maine Coons is North America. However, the breed development in Europe today considerably differs from American.

American tupe - Maine Coons often represents classical standards of the breed. They are larger, big-boned, thickset, thus strong and brawny. American type Maine Coons have more round, massive heads, round eyes, and not very large ears. Their muzzles are shorter with curved profiles, and the fur is excellent. American type Maine Coons are known for the best tiger colors.

Еuropean type - Maine Coons are bright representatives of the modern breed type. They are more extreme. Long and high body, long tail – are their distinctive characteristics. The European type Maine Coon muzzle is a little bit oblong, and it also has a quite good, developed capsule, and a "smooth" profile. These cats obtain more slanting and deep-set eyes with a "wild" look; high large ears with long lynx-like tufts, those are visible since the kittens’ birth.
